In this guide we've combined our expertise with customer experience and lessons learned over more than 10 years of ECDIS installation and use.

During the last two decades there has been a constant flow of new carriage requirements for Bridge equipment; in most cases a burden for ship owners and crew. ECDIS can reverse this situation if it's properly installed, optimized for a particular vessel and manned by a well-trained crew. We hope our guide will give you some hints and ideas to show how ECDIS can optimize your operations, saving time and money.

ECDIS can bring added value to a ship owner as well as for a crew, in addition to enhanced safety and fulfilling the ECDIS Carriage Requirement.

Proper transition to ECDIS takes time. So do as many ship owners have already done - get started now to benefit from your ECDIS installation from day one. And let us help you to manage any challenges along the way.

A dual installation of Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 MFD ECDIS fulfills the ECDIS carriage requirements and is approved for paperless navigation. The Wilson fleet consists of 113 vessels, ranging from 1 500 – 10 000 DWT, and Wilson is among the largest shipping operators within the European short sea segment. Under this contract, Transas has already delivered dual Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 MFD ECDIS for two vessels, WILSON NORTH and WILSON NICE.

Transas ECDIS is a true "multifunction" system that reads and presents all official chart formats. Transas Admiralty Digital Services (TADS) provides the best coverage of official charts available, a service that will include temporary and preliminary (T&P) chart corrections.

Wilson ASA selected Transas after careful considerations of available alternatives. Wilson's Purchasing Manager, Nikolai Berget, concluded that Transas delivers the most cost efficient solution and that Transas provides for all required products and services in one smooth operation.

John Vonli, Transas Marine Norway's General Manager, says: "I am impressed with Wilson's professionalism and I look forward to being Wilson's supplier of hardware and services for paperless navigation."

Transas continues cooperation with Lithuanian Maritime Academy and Liepaja Maritime College

August, 2010 – Transas Baltic SIA (Latvia) delivered Transas GMDSS Simulators TGS 5000 to maritime institutions of Latvia and Lithuania as a part of cross-border cooperation programme.

Part of their assessment will be a completion of series of progressive tasks aimed at obtaining basic operator skills and familiarization with an engine room equipment.

In addition, Transas provided a three-day operation training course which was highly appreciated by DUT representatives.

Edward Pines, Lecturer on Ship Stability & Marine Engineering, Department of Maritime Studies, noted: "This training session was very worthwhile and introduced us not only to the complexities of the various systems but also clearly demonstrated the value of such a system as both a teaching method and as an assessment and evaluation tool. I am sure that we shall be able to demonstrate value for money invested in this project.

May I take this opportunity to thank all those who worked to motivate for the provision of this software and ancillary equipment and also those who helped to create the means and process of funding for this project."

Simulation as a method of teaching and training is fast becoming a methodology being adopted worldwide in all the major teaching and training establishments. DUT is now positioned to provide an improved and world class opportunity for teaching and training in all levels of marine engineering within the maritime industry.

Prof. Dr. Selçuk NAS. Risk level of ship maneuvers in Aliaga terminals in this study was assessed by harbor pilots.

Total Petroleum Terminal, Tupras Crude Oil Terminal, Tupras Petroleum Terminal and Tupras LPG Terminals have been designed using Transas Model Wizard software by Asst. Prof. Dr. Yusuf ZORBA and Asst. Prof. Dr. Selçuk NAS in order to try the dangerous maneuvers in the Aliaga terminals. Also Ege Gaz LNG Terminal model has been designed in close cooperation between Transas and Dokuz Eylul University.

Transas Model Wizard (MW) is a unified suite of tools and utilities, intended to create and modify both Transas marine simulation exercise areas and ship models "in-house". MW has been specifically designed by Transas for organizations that use Marine Simulation environment for research and development purposes.

After designing the Aliaga terminals, maneuvering scenarios were developed in Transas navigational simulator NTPRO 5000. The harbor pilots practiced dangerous and emergency maneuvers on Transas navigational simulator installed at the Maritime Faculty training center of Docuz Eylul University.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Selçuk NAS comments on the project: "As result of the study, pilots had the opportunity to test the high risky and emergency maneuvers. In this manner, they can develop and determine the appropriate measures against the maneuvering threats in the terminals".
